Negar Ghodskani plead guilty in August 2019 to conspiring to illegally export controlled technology from the US to Iran and was recently sentenced to 27 months in prison. Ghodskani helped to create and operate a front company, Green Wave Telecommunication, Sdn Bhn, (Green Wave) which was located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Green Wave was used to purchase sensitive technology for Fanavar Moj Khavar (Fana Moj), an Iran-based company that supplies microwave radio systems and wireless broadband access in Iran. Fana Moj’s main customer is the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) which is controlled by the Government of Iran; both IRIB and Fana Moj are on the Specially Designated National list by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for supporting the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRGC).

Ghodskani, while based in Iran, would represent herself as an employee of Green Wave to US companies in order to purchase the technology on behalf of Fana Moj. She, along with others, would contact US producers and distributors of the technology, obtain purchase agreements, and negotiate the purchase and delivery of the goods with the sellers under false pretenses.
