Mario Mancuso

Mario Mancuso is a corporate partner resident in Fried Frank's Washington, DC and New York offices, is a leading authority on the US regulation of international trade and investment.
He joined the Firm as a partner in 2010, bringing extensive senior-level government and private sector experience. At the Firm, he co-chairs the International Trade and Investment practice.
A former US Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security and a senior Pentagon official, Mr. Mancuso provides strategic and regulatory counsel to the Firm's corporate and investment firm clients on crossborder transactional and investment activity, particularly with respect to the US government's regulation of foreign direct investment (CFIUS) and US export controls, economic sanctions, and antiboycott laws.
During Mr. Mancuso's tenure in government, he played a pivotal role in key initiatives, including the US government's regulation of foreign direct investment; export controls, economic sanctions and anti-boycott programs; and strategic technology and innovation policy. He served as a senior decision-maker in the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), helped draft and implement regulations for the Foreign Investment and National Security Act of 2007 (FINSA), and reviewed more than 200 CFIUS transactions as a regulator.
In addition to his role as Under Secretary, Mr. Mancuso's government experience includes positions as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Counterterrorism and as a Special Counsel in the office of the Secretary of Defense. Prior to joining the government, he spent nearly a decade in the private sector as a corporate lawyer advising clients on international mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions. A former US Army officer, he is a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
